Hyundai is Launching a New, “aggressive” CUV in 2018
Hyundai dealerships near Algonquin are abuzz with excitement over the arrival of Hyundai’s newest small crossover utility vehicle (or “CUV”): The Hyundai Kona. The Kona represents the automaker’s first foray into the world of compact crossovers and the car’s innovative engineering is truly something to behold.
The new Hyundai Kona will be available at Hyundai dealerships by early 2018 as an alternative to mid-size SUVs like Hyundai’s popular Tucson, Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport models. The Kona was designed to compete with those vehicles (and similar models by rival automakers) by appealing to younger drivers who tend to be more conscious of vehicle efficiency.
“Our new Kona crossover is a stylish and functional compact CUV, tailored to the needs of customers who pursue active lifestyles of all kinds,” Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning for Hyundai Motor America, said in a recent statement. “We’re confident it will set new standards for its segment, with appealing design, cutting-edge connectivity and class-leading available safety features.”
When O’Brien describes the Kona as “new,” he’s not kidding around. The four-door Kona is built on an entirely new platform and features a never-before-seen exterior design that Hyundai calls “masculine protective armor” to create a style that’s being described as voluminous and aggressive. The vehicle’s tough looks, Hyundai says, make it perfect for “a variety of urban and adventure-oriented driving environments.”
The Kona’s bold attitude is immediately visible thanks to details like an optional color-contrasting roof, LED headlights and spectacular color options like Sonic Silver, Lime Twist, Pulse Red and Thunder Gray. The Kona’s cascading front grille features a sporty mesh pattern and is flanked by flared, wing-like fenders for a dominant, intense look. There’s no denying that the Kona has character.
Inside, the Kona is spacious, stylish and super comfortable. The vehicle’s modernist interior is accented with sleek details and top-notch tech features. An advanced infotainment system is accessible via a floating seven-inch touchscreen with integrated Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities.
And, of course, the new Hyundai Kona features a range of powerful and efficient powertrains just like any other Hyundai car. The vehicle is offered with a choice of two gas powertrains: A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson engine capable of generating 147 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 132 lb.-ft. of torque, or a Gamma 1.6-liter 4-cylinder direct-injected turbocharged engine generating 175 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. Either option offers exactly the sort of experience you’d come to expect from a rugged, aggressive-looking vehicle like the Kona.
The new Kona is also slated to come with a full range of new safety features. To find out more, give Rosen Hyundai a call. We’ll see you in 2018 when this awesome new car will be available to test drive.
