Hyundai Wins Big in Power Car Quality Awards
Hyundai continues to rack up awards as industry insiders recognize the brand’s extraordinary penchant for innovation. Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury Genesis brand recently received one of the industry’s highest honors: a top rank in new-car quality across all car brands in J.D. Power’s 2018 U.S. Initial Quality Study.
The annual study measures the number of problems experienced by drivers driving during the first 90 days of vehicle ownership. Across all 2018 model brands, new-vehicle quality improved for the fourth consecutive year. The industry cumulatively improved new-vehicle quality by roughly four percent compared to 2017-a new high water mark for the automotive world.
But Hyundai beat out all of its competitors to grab the top marks. Kia ranked second in the same study.
“There’s no question that most automakers are doing a great job of listening to consumers and are producing vehicle quality of the highest caliber,” Dave Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power, said in a recent statement.
Overall, Hyundai Motor Group received four awards from J.D. Power and was applauded by the firm as one of the industry’s most improved brands. The Hyundai Tucson received the most recognition.
Hyundai dealerships across the country were pleased to learn that the new 2018 Hyundai Tucson received exceptional marks from J.D Power. The Tucson was the highest-ranked small SUV and the fourth-best model overall. Hyundai’s cutting-edge Ulsan plant, which manufactures the Tucson, also received high praise: the plant won the Bronze Plant Assembly Line Quality Award for the Asia Pacific region.
“Customers of the Hyundai brand can feel confident that they are selecting a new vehicle that has one of the best initial and long-term quality rankings in the entire automotive industry,” Omar Rivera, director of Quality and Service Engineering for Hyundai Motor America, said in an interview.
“J.D.Power’s Initial Quality Study is the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality, and our 2018 ranking is a result of an enterprise-wide commitment to producing vehicles of the highest quality and education customers on how to use their car’s technologies and features,” Rivera said.
