Hyundai’s N Division is BMW’s Competition
Hyundai is getting serious about enhancing its performance pedigree and releasing the performance-oriented N Division. If you’re at all familiar with BMW’s vaunted M-series, you’ll know more or less what to expect from Hyundai’s N Division. The Korean automaker recently unveiled the N Division to the public in Frankfort, but that’s just the first step. Hyundai has big plans for the N Division. Specifically, they have their eyes set on a win at the World Rally Championship (WRC). After a 10 year hiatus from the WRC, Hyundai returned to the track in 2014.
Two Hyundai concept cars were presented in Frankfort on September 15th, and one of them is the space-aged N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo. Prior to the unveiling, the N Division project had been veiled in secrecy. The only two images that had been released were dark and mysterious. For lack of a better comparison, the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo looks a lot like the Batmobile.
Hyundai says that the N 2025 will “highlight sustainable technology and race car design, truly representing the future potential of Hyundai N.” Hyundai has been embracing upscale models in recent years, and the N Division is taking the company’s new focus to its logical conclusion: beating out the competition. Hyundai hopes to bring its unprecedented sales success from production-line models to the performance sphere.
Those hoping to get a glimpse at an N Division vehicle might be in for a long wait–that is unless you were in Germany for the September 15th auto show. One other way to get sneak peak is by playing the Sony PlayStation game Gran Turismo. Besides that, we’ll all just have to wait.
