Hyundai to Team Up with Cisco to Improve Car Tech
Whether you like it or not, the Internet of Things is on its way (if not already here), and smart businessmen and women are taking advantage of such a thing as quickly as possible. Case in point: Hyundai has recently announced that the automaker has plans to team up with IT and networking equipment bigwigs Cisco, with the intention of developing the next generation of vehicles with Internet capabilities. Hyundai has mentioned that this partnership, which is part of the automaker’s more far-reaching strategy that sees the company working with numerous technology outlets in order to create a better connected vehicle platform for all its cars, has all to do with creating a network that will work to accelerate and improve the transferring of large amounts of date within a vehicle.
And speed is the name of the game here. That is to say, for example, if any car is implemented with an advanced driver assistance system, automated brakes, and lane steering capabilities, all of these systems need to be able to quickly communicate with numerous cameras and sensors in order to ensure the driver’s safety. Hopefully, the work Hyundai is doing with organizations like Cisco will undoubtedly provide such speed and assurance when it comes to our vehicles operating with the upmost proficiency. Too, Hyundai has also noted that its work with Cisco will also have to do with investments in cloud technology, big data analytics, and connected car security technologies, though they did not mention how much time and effort will go into these things.
Of course, this is all part of a recent plan by Hyundai, which they outlined last month, that sees the automaker investing more time and money in the development of smarter cars that can work to receive and use data faster than ever. One of the bright spots that the automaker mentioned, too, is the development not only of ways to deliver data faster, but what they are calling a “smart traffic” feature, which is one where the vehicle will be able to pick the best route to take based on real-time data on traffic and road conditions.
For quite a long time, automakers seemed to be at war with features on our smartphones that have become a part of everyday life for most of us. It is definitely nice to see a trend as of recently with companies investing in as well as developing technology and Internet-connected features in their vehicles that are easy to use, intuitive, and designed to work with our smartphones instead of ignoring them.
