Hyundai Continues to Lead in the Fight Against Pediatric Cancer
Hyundai dealers in Algonquin are always proud to acknowledge that Hyundai Motor Company is one of America’s top contributors to pediatric cancer research efforts. Since 1998, the automaker has contributed significantly to cancer research through its Hope On Wheels program.
During the course of its long effort to end pediatric cancer for good, the automaker has contributed significantly to research that has led to current outcomes which allow more than 80% of children with cancer to survive their fight. However, 42 American families each day still receive the devastating news that their child has cancer.
“While great strides have been made in the fight against pediatric cancer over the last 19 years, pediatric cancer sadly remains the leading disease-related cause of death for children in the United States,” Jerry Flannery, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America, said in a recent statement. “It is a terrible disease that impacts far too many kids each year and robs them of their youth. As part of our mission at Hyundai to be a better company, we remain committed to bringing hope to families faced with this disease and to helping close the gap in funding for critical cancer research.”
To help aid in the critical fight against cancer, Hyundai and Algonquin Hyundai dealers are proud to make a donation to Hyundai Hope On Wheels each and every time a Hyundai vehicle is purchased. That funding goes towards cancer research which has directly led to a drastic drop in pediatric cancer death rates already: in the past four decades, death rates have dropped by nearly 70 percent.
Unfortunately, more than 1,190 children will still die from the disease in 2017, according to the National Cancer Institute. That’s why Hyundai isn’t backing down. In September of 2017, the automaker announced a renewed effort to increase its fundraising push and commit once again to this important cause.
“September is a special time for all of us at Hyundai because it’s National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a time when we honor the courageous children battling cancer while also funding the doctors and researchers that are working tirelessly to provide care and develop new treatments,” Scott Fink, chairman of the Hyundai Hope on Wheels Board of Directors, told reporters.
