Hyundai Creta Designed to Make Global Impact in the CUV Segment
Rosen Hyundai knows that it’s pretty common for car companies to name their vehicles after people places, objects, and even things. As the largest island in Greece and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean Sea, Crete was once a teeming trade center for the continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe. The land’s natural resources, precious stones, and raw materials made it a popular hub for the three continents.
The new Hyundai Creta took its name from the Greek Island Crete and is one of the newest CUVs to hit the auto market. The automaker hopes this subcompact car will appeal to a broader audience.
“Creta will be an influential global model for the Hyundai Motor brand in one of the fastest-growing vehicle segments, helping the company to reach out to many more consumers in new and established international markets,” Hyundai said.
The all-new Creta enters a market of subcompact SUVs that is steadily rising in popularity among Millennials. This is a group that values design, technology and price. Of course, great gas mileage is another huge benefit when considering a CUV, and Hyundai Creta offers 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter gasoline four cylinders as well as two diesel engines. The 1.4 liter engine is said to get up to 24.8 mpg and 21.5 mpg for the 1.6 liter.
Both the 6 speed manual and automatic transmissions provide a powerful combination of performance and driving pleasure. And for those young, green-friendly Hyundai drivers, the Creta offers a class-exclusive diesel AT which means more torque, fewer emissions, less fuel, and greater overall savings.
As for the Hyundai enthusiasts that especially love design, the all-new Creta takes cues from its larger siblings, the Tucson and Santa Fe. A hexagonal grille, swept back headlights, projector headlamps with LED positioning, 17″ Diamond cut alloy wheels, and Hyundai’s new “Hive Structure” which features a lightweight body design and “Ring-Shaped Frame” – created to form a protective shell to increase safety and add to the overall durability of the vehicle – All changes that reflect the Japanese carmaker’s fluidic sculpture 2.0 design philosophy.
To increase appeal, the Creta will debut in India first in the second half of the year and reach Europe, Asia, and America shortly after.
With different features representative of each individual market, Rosen Hyundai thinks the brand was right when it dubbed the Creta a “Global SUV”.
