The LITH American Legion Post Hosts Annual Turkey Raffle
For the past few years, the Lake in the Hills American Legion Post has hosted their annual turkey raffle, and this year, the event will be taking place again on November 14th at 6:30 pm.
Participants will have the chance to win turkeys, ham, steaks, ducks, while offering food and refreshments, plus a full bar on both levels of the venue located at the American Legion Post 1231 on 1101 W. Algonquin Rd.
Each year, many of us here at Rosen Hyundai and family look forward to the festivities offered by the legion during the holidays – after all, it’s celebrating over a century of service to American veterans.
The first American Legion was established in 1919 with the mission of maintaining preparedness for the U.S. military. The group wanted to strengthen the number of troops in the army and navy, while developing a presence in World War I. After the war, American leaders wanted to establish a new organization that would comprise former members of the American Expeditionary Forces and the millions of service members who had served in Europe during WWI.
The intention was to raise morale, host athletic and recreational events and expand entertainment programs. In 1919, the first post of the American Legion was established and a new organization dedicated to the livelihood and welfare of all veterans was born.
Today, the American Legion operates as a non-profit organization and is the largest wartime veterans group of its kind. There are nearly 2.4 million veterans who are members at 14,000 locations all over the world.
Its mission is to sponsor community-oriented programs, mentor youth, promote honor and patriotism, and advocate national security.
The Legion also takes a very active stand politically – often championing the rights of veterans in Washington on issues like funding for education, medical, disability benefits, higher active pay, housing, job assistance, future retired cost of living allowances, and the G.I. Bill of Health.
Rosen Hyundai applauds and supports the efforts of the Lake in the Hills American Legion Post.
