Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Hart, and Attacking Bears Team Up To Highlight Innovative Features From Hyundai In This Year’s Super Bowl Ads
It’s the biggest game of the year and, judging by sneak previews of commercials that were cut for Hyundai, the 2016 Super Bowl will once again be the launching point for some of the funniest — and most informative – ads on TV. Created by teams from Innocean Worldwide, each piece that will premiere during the game uses humor to highlight one of the new technologies that are featured on either the 2016 Genesis or 2017 Elantra.
The first Hyundai spot previewed for journalists and Hyundai dealers, titled ‘Ryanville’, begins as two young women in a beautiful new 2017 Elantra cruise into what they think is just another ordinary small town in America. As they soon discover, however, every resident looks exactly like actor Ryan Reynolds, even the construction workers they pass on the street. Taken in by this sight, both ladies become distracted and take their eyes off the road. Fortunately, just as they’re about to hit one of the Reynolds look-alikes as he crosses the street, the Elantra’s Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection activates, saving him from injury.
While entertaining, ‘Ryanville’ highlights one of the primary causes of auto accidents, driver distraction, and Hyundai’s solution to the problem. While Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection is not meant to supplant or minimize the importance of driver awareness, it can prevent both pedestrian injuries and fender benders at low speeds. Using a camera that is mounted behind the rear-view mirror and a radar emitter that’s built into the Elantra’s bumper, the system can both detect and range objects in the car’s path and, if necessary, activate Emergency Braking.
The next Super Bowl spot from Hyundai, ‘The Chase’, starts off with a more ominous take on personal safety, as it races through a series of rapid cuts that show a group of friends being pursued by a pack of hungry bears. Luckily, they’re headed toward a 2017 Hyundai Elantra with Blue Link Remote Start that can be activated via smartwatch, so they’re able to escape just before the furry carnivores close in.
‘First Date’, the final ad previewed before the big game, kicks off with a young, male high schooler arriving at the home of popular comedian and actor Kevin Hart. The cad is there to pick up Hart’s daughter for a night out on the town and, after quickly assessing the fellow’s intentions, Hart lends him the family’s 2016 Hyundai Genesis. What the couple doesn’t realize, however, is that the Genesis is equipped with Blue Link Car Finder technology that allows Hart to monitor the date as it progresses from a movie theater to a carnival and, finally, to a lover’s point above the city… where Hart ends the romance with the help of a helicopter gunship, of course.
While this TV dad’s reactions may be a bit extreme, the ad does underscore one of the advantages of Hyundai Blue Link technology. As depicted, it enables parents to monitor how their vehicle is being used while it’s on loan to a high school or college student. In the event the car is stolen, Car Finder also makes it easy for law enforcement to zero in on its whereabouts.
