Hyundai Sonata Makes a Great Family Car
At this point, I think it is pretty safe to say that Hyundai builds incredible vehicles. As 2016 shapes up to be a very strange year for most of us—the deaths of Prince and David Bowie alone would put a sour damper on any year—Hyundai seems to be riding high in 2016. That is to say, the automaker just keeps winning awards, notably in the consumer satisfaction, safety, design, and quality categories, which is a pretty incredible for any company, but especially one in the cutthroat and competitive automotive business. Still, it looks like Hyundai can go ahead and add another award to their 2016 trophy case: that is, Untied States research firm, AutoPacific, just announced recently that Hyundai’s Sonata Hybrid wins the prestigious honor of being the top-rated Hybrid/EV vehicle in the firm’s Vehicle Satisfaction Survey. This means that the Sonata decimated its very popular, big-name rivals, which includes the likes of the Toyota Camry and the Lexus CT.
What does this mean for the Sonata? Well, to put it quite frankly, the AutoPacific accolade is just one more positive checkmark for the Sonata being an outstanding family vehicle. Let’s break down just exactly what this means. First, the Sonata is incredibly well-engineered, ensuring that any family will get the most out of their vehicle for the longest time. Second, there is the outstanding safety rating for the vehicle. That is, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the vehicle with a perfect score for their Crash Rating. Too, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Sonata its Top Safety Pick. Both of these awards honestly speak for themselves.
But safety and top notch engineering are not all that the Sonata offers. No, there is also fuel efficacy. That is to say, Hyundai decided to drop the V-6 engines from the previous generation, and instead dropped in a four-cylinder. This engine uses Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology to push 198-horespower while only consuming 5.6 L/100km of gas on the highway. Also, Hyundai received the Government of Canada’s 2012 ecoENERGY for Vehicles Award that marked the Sonata as the most fuel efficient full-size car. “I’d like to say this came as a surprise, but we knew the Sonata was a winner,” noted Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. “The ecoENERGY awards program is an excellent way to help consumers pick the most fuel-efficient vehicles available in Canada. For the full-size segment, that means it’s the Sonata.”
The Sonata is also affordable, with a starting price of $23,999 and topping out at $31,299.
