2018 Hyundai Accent Boasts Better Fuel Efficiency and Tougher Safety Features
In the market for a subcompact car at a price point that will leave you smiling? Look no further than the new 2018 Hyundai Accent, the most affordable compact vehicle currently available from America’s favorite automaker. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in attitude.
The new Hyundai Accent is the result of over two decades of fine-tuning and intensive design work. Ever since the Accent first hit the market in 1994, Hyundai has been working to improve it with each successive generation. The goal has always been to make sure the vehicle responded directly to the needs and concerns of its drivers. Now, the 2018 model has been totally redesigned to make it Hyundai’s most economical and reliable small car yet.
The latest model features a more rigid chassis to improve overall safety and to give the vehicle a sleeker, more contemporary feel. Over 50 percent of the Accent’s body frame is made from high-strength steel, an improvement over the previous model’s 33 percent. The new Accent also provides 32 percent greater torsional rigidity to improve front-passenger protection and reduce road noise. To top off the vehicle’s new range of safety features, the car’s front seats have been re-designed to offer better crash protection.
Other updates include a revised powertrain, a newly designed exterior and a fully refreshed interior. In order to ensure the new Hyundai Accent can compete directly with vehicles like the Ford Fiesta, the Toyota Yaris iA, the Chevrolet Sonic and the Honda Fit, the automaker has included additional safety, infotainment and convenience features as well.
Just because the Accent is the economical choice, doesn’t mean it can’t come with a few stand-out bells and whistles. The new vehicle includes LED daytime running lights, side mirror LED turn signal indicators, 17-inch wheels, heated front seats, keyless entry, push-button start, and a 7-inch color touchscreen infotainment system that allows drivers and passengers to play music and access their favorite apps via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
But don’t let the new Hyundai Accent’s compact size fool you–it’s packing some decent power under the hood. The vehicle is powered by a revamped 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that creates 132 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque. The new Accent comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission but you can opt for a six-speed automatic if that’s your style.
With all the improvements to the new Accent, perhaps the most exciting is the vehicle’s increase in fuel efficiency. With its new engine, the 2018 Accent’s fuel ratings will improve by 7 percent to put its highway estimates at about 40 mpg.
