Hyundai Launches Autonomous Driving Tech
Hyundai is launching itself into the future with its announcement that the new Genesis G90 luxury sedan will debut in the United States in 2019 with the automaker’s groundbreaking, exclusive Highway Driving Assist system. Although Highway Driving Assist has been available in Hyundai’s home country of South Korea since 2015, this is the first time American drivers will be able to experience the futuristic technology.
Following its debut on the Genesis G90, Highway Driving Assist will be available on the next-generation Sonata when it finally arrives at Hyundai dealerships in a few years.
But what exactly can you expect from the G90 and its Highway Driving Assist system?
Hyundai claims that the vehicle will be “all-but autonomous.” The semi-autonomous driving system works similarly to active cruise control by slowing down and speeding up to avoid collisions. However, the newly developed technology also maintains the vehicle’s speed, keeps the car inside the driving lane and ensures that the car stays at a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead.
The luxurious new G90 will also come with Smart High Beam Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Detection, Active Blind Spot Detection, Driver Attention Alert and a one-megapixel rearview camera viewable via a full-size color dash monitor.
“This combination of newly developed technologies create a first-class, all-but autonomous driving experience,” a Hyundai spokesperson explained in a recent statement.
Although many drivers will flock to the new Genesis G90 sedan for its extraordinary tech features, the vehicle is undeniably made even more attractive thanks to its incredibly luxurious interior and exterior design. The G90 is, without a doubt, a work of art.
Hyundai claims that the G90 was inspired by a “finely-tailored gentleman’s pin-stripe suit” and this classically streamlined design aesthetic extends from the vehicle’s unique hand-painted exterior detailing to its custom made interior.
“We believe that desire is powered by exquisite design, so every element of our G90 has been fastidiously executed by our design team and engineers,” Manfred Fitzgerald, head of Genesis, said in a statement announcing the vehicle’s debut. “This approach, combined with influences from our distinctive Korean heritage, ensures that Genesis vehicles stand out confidently in the luxury car sector.”
The automaker went on to emphasize its commitment to the Genesis luxury lineup, adding that six new Genesis models are currently in the works to be launched by 2021. Hyundai experts are confident that forthcoming Genesis vehicles will continue to improve on the G90’s autonomous driving technology.
