Hyundai’s New Nexo Car Improves on the Brand’s Futuristic Fuel Cell Technology
The next new Hyundai for sale will be one of the automaker’s most innovative vehicles yet: the 2019 Hyundai Nexo.
The Nexo was unveiled at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year and its incredible fuel cell technology has already made tons of waves in the automotive community. The car is already racking up awards–it won Digital Trends’ Top Tech of CES 2018 award in the automotive category. The award is judged by editors who specialize in innovation, design and practicality.
So what exactly makes the 2019 Hyundai Nexo so special? It’s simple: the car has a 370-mile range and its only tailpipe emission is water. The Nexo gets its energy purely via fuel cell technology and it’s the automaker’s technological flagship for its expanding eco-vehicle portfolio.
“At Hyundai, our people, planet and our vehicle performance are of the upmost importance to us,” Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning for Hyundai Motor America, explained in a recent statement. “The Nexo exemplifies that you should never need to reduce performance to improve efficiency.”
The Nexo marks a huge milestone in Hyundai’s continued commitment towards building the industry’s most diverse CUV powertrain lineup.
The vehicle is an improvement upon the acclaimed Hyundai Tucson FCEV. The Nexo boasts a range of over 100 miles more than the Tucson and the car is even outfitted with improved acceleration and power systems. The Nexo can handle everything from extreme temperatures to extreme environments thanks to its radically innovative safety, tech and powertrain components.
But, obviously, it’s the Nexo’s hydrogen technology that has Hyundai dealerships near you buzzing with excitement.
“Hydrogen energy is the key to building a more sustainable society. Hyundai Motor Company has already taken a lead in hydrogen technology with the introduction of [the] Tucson fuel cell,” Dr. Woong-chul Yang, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Company, said in a recent statement. Yang has described the Nexo’s fuel cell tech as an “earth-saving effort” and “the culmination of our cutting-edge technologies.”
The vehicle, which will be available in select markets globally in 2018, has improved power density and durability comparable with gasoline-powered vehicles. Fans of the Tucson will be pleased to learn that the Nexo also has improved hydrogen storage tanks, a 25% improvement on the Tucson’s peak acceleration limits, and an even quieter, more comfortable cabin.
