2019 Hyundai Veloster officially a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Hyundai fans will catch a glimpse of the all-new Hyundai Veloster in Marvel Studios’ smash hit Ant-Man and The Wasp movie this summer. The film, which features superheroes who have the ability to shrink, debuted in theaters on July 6, but a new TV ad will give fans a peek of the new Hyundai for sale before they head out to watch the movie.
The ad, which is titled “Stoplight Standoff,” features two police officers in an awkward standoff with a Veloster driver. The commercial debuted on June 11 as part of a fully-integrated marketing plan which also includes an interactive sweepstakes (featuring a Veloster scavenger hunt) and more.
“We’re huge Marvel fans, so we immediately recognized that our goal was to integrate Hyundai in a way that felt organic and paid homage to the comedy inherent in the films,” Joe Reynoso, associate creative director, and Alvaro Soto, senior copywriter, both from Hyundai’s ad agency INNOCEAN USA, said. The agency helped develop the integrated Ant-Man campaign.
In the ad, the two cops and the Veloster driver each think that the other is suggesting a race at a stoplight. Little do they know, a tiny Hyundai Veloster identical to the vehicle featured in the film is the cause of the confusion and is revving its engine between their cars. The mini Veloster is decked out just like the Ant-Man version to showcase the car’s aggressive attitude and sleek look.
“Having our all-new Veloster immersed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a great way to entertain consumers and showcase the vehicle’s stylish design and performance capabilities to a massive audience,” Dean Evans, CMO of Hyundai Motor America, said in a recent statement. “We wanted to take full advantage of this collaboration by engaging fans and providing them with experiences beyond the big screen.”
But the Veloster won’t just appear in the ad. During the world premiere of Ant-Man and The Wasp, the Veloster from the film will be dressed up to look like a packaged toy car that has been enlarged and displayed on the red carpet. Hyundai is also set to sponsor the premiere live stream that will run on Marvel’s digital platform. Now if only we could get the movie screened inside a Hyundai dealership!
“There’s so much fun to be had with this film, which is why we’re elated about the approach that Hyundai has taken with their campaign,” said Mindy Hamilton, Marvel’s SVP of Global Partnerships and Marketing. “The humor is there, the heart is there, and the creativity is firing on all cylinders because they’re experimenting with the same sizing and scale gags that our heroes encounter all throughout the movie.”
