Hyundai Is Building a Cruise Control that Mimics Your Driving Style
If the idea of a self-driving car makes you feel a bit uncomfortable, then you really should stop reading now. It just so happens that the new developments in Smart Cruise Control-Machine may be the next step in cruise self driving vehicles. If you drive a Hyundai, or are looking to buy one in the near future, this new may affect you personally.
Sorry to deliver such a shock, but Hyundai has announced that it will be introducing Smart Cruise Control-Machine Learning, or SCC-ML, in future models. If you’re interested in cruise control reviews, you can ask our opinion here at Rosen Hyundai, but we haven’t actually gotten a chance to drive one yet. Or self-drive one, I guess we should say.
Hyundai announced that they have devised a cruise control system that uses a combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning that will learn driving patterns and then duplicate them when cruise control is activated. This technology achieves at Level 2.5 self-driving. This is the rating level devised by the Society of Automotive Engineer to categorize self-driving vehicles. Level 2 are systems that provide break and acceleration support, steering support and lane adaptive cruise control. This is a half level up from that and of course, it still totally needs a human in command. You can’t take a nap behind the wheel just yet.
This new feature, it is hoped, will make drivers more comfortable using the Smart Cruise Control function. It can create a more natural intuitive driving experience. Different sensors send information to the system as it gains information from cameras and radar.
There are three categories for driving patterns. One is the distance of the vehicle directly in front of your car. Then there’s acceleration speed and finally responsiveness. These patterns can be controlled to a greater degree and the new system will recall acceleration speeds so you can close the gap with the nearest car ahead of you. The system will also be programmed to get you to a steady speed while still avoiding any unsafe driving patterns, such as riding the bumper of the car in front of you.
