\"Hyundai<\/a><\/b>Most people with any interest in the automotive world have at least heard the term GT. It\u2019s often tacked on the end of various names of car models. Fewer people actually know what those letters stand for, however. Of course we know that GT stands for grand tourer, or for the Italians, gran turismo. Grand is supposed to mean impressive and a tourer should be designed for travel. The GT label has been misapplied with increasing frequency over the years, so it\u2019s good for us at<\/span> Rosen Hyundai<\/span><\/a>, to see it used appropriately. And on an Elantra no less.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re talking, of course, about the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT. The Elantra was the recipient of a redesign last year and as a result it\u2019s looking much sportier these days. Changes have been implemented on the front and rear ends and to the wheels as well. For a compact five door hatchback, the Elantra is surprisingly spacious with ample headroom and a back seat that folds down to allow for more storage. \u00a0Pricing starts off at just over $18,000, making this an affordable ride as well as a comfortable one.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the area of fuel economy, always on our minds, the GT gets 24 miles per gallon in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. There is also an upshift light on the dashboard of the manual version that indicates the best time to shift gears in order to save fuel. The Elantra GT is powered by a 2.0 liter, 16 valve, four cylinder engine that delivers 173 of horsepower and 154 lbs ft of torque and is available in a six speed manual transmission or a six speed automatic. The new Elantra GT model is comparable to the Volkswagen Golf and the Ford Focus and was likely designed to compete with them in the US as well as appeal to the European market.<\/span><\/p>\n
