The regular Elantra\u2019s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine has been passed over in favor of Hyundai\u2019s turbocharged, direct-injected 1.6-liter four-cylinder, which produces more than 200 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. More specific power figures will be released closer to the Sport\u2019s on-sale date later this year, but we still know that the new model\u2019s numbers are at least 53 horsepower and 58 lb-ft stronger than previous models. The fuel-economy-oriented Elantra Eco has a 128-hp 1.4-liter turbo four cylinder, but nothing will beat the turbocharged Elantra Sport.<\/p>\n<p>Hyundai will offer the new model with a six-speed manual transmission in addition to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters. The Sport will remain front-wheel drive, but its rear end has been overhauled to include a multilink independent suspension. The new suspension design replaces the non-Sport Elantra\u2019s twist-beam axle, offering the 2017 Sport more controlled dynamics and an overall smoother, more refined ride.<\/p>\n<p>And the hits just keep coming once you take a look inside. The 2017 Elantra Sport has consistently been called \u201chandsome\u201d by gearheads across the media. Bearing the same basic grille shape and headlights as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rosenhyundai.com\/all-inventory\/index.htm?search=elantra\">other Elantras<\/a>, the Sport stands out thanks to deep cuts underneath each cheekbone, a subtle body kit, and attractive 20-spoke aluminum wheels. Other design details include a sportier bumper than usual, LED fog lights, a black grille surround and revised side skirts. Sporty vibes abound with a reworked rear which incorporates a new bumper and diffuser and a dual exhaust system.<\/p>\n<p>Hyundai resisted the urge to incorporate any superfluous flashiness in the form of excessive chrome or boy-racer spoilers, leaving the Elantra with a sophisticated, sleek look. The new model skips over the extroverted, Focus ST-style aesthetic in favor of a subtler, more mature GTI-like feel.
