new models<\/a> will directly compete with Volkswagen\u2019s Golf GTI\/R and Ford\u2019s Focus ST\/RS, though the hotly-anticipated Fastback will compete on a higher market level.<\/p>\nThe four models in the new i30 line will include a Fastback hatch, a track-tuned i30N hot hatch (sure to inject some style and performance into the family car range) and an i30 Tourer estate variant. The i30 Tourer is expected to launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Thomas Buerkle, Hyundai design boss, says it will be much sleeker than we\u2019ve previously seen, with \u201cless sheet metal\u201d at the back to rid the Tourer of its less-than-modern rear.<\/p>\n
The most exciting part of the announcement, however, was the reveal of a vehicle Hyundai is calling \u201cthe Fastback,\u201d a riff on the traditional four-door coupe. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and other front-of-the-pack auto manufacturers have explored the four-door coupe profile before, but now it seems that Hyundai will be one of the first mainstream automakers to jump into the fray.<\/p>\n
The production schedule tweeted by Hyundai reveals that the Fastback won\u2019t be introduced until early 2018, slating it behind the reveal of the wagon and the i30 N. But when it finally does debut, the Fastback is sure to make waves. The new vehicle will fill the void left behind by the outgoing three-door hatch and will be able to compete directly with the Audio TT and BMW 2 Series coupe.<\/p>\n
Details are scant when it comes to the Fastback, though. It seems that Hyundai is trying to keep a lid on the project\u2013for now, at least. There\u2019s a chance that Hyundai will fit the new vehicle with a variation on its 138bhp 1.4-liter Turbo engine, but it\u2019s all just speculation at this point. However, experts have a tighter grip on what might be coming our way inside the i30 hot hatch\u2013the vehicle will possibly arrive with up to 375bhp and 450Nm of torque generated by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The hot hatch is also expected to feature a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.<\/p>\n
